Foundation Passport Prime
Dispositivo más amplio: Bitcoin más 2FA, passkeys y archivos cifrados. Más nuevo y menos probado en batalla.
Overview
The Foundation Passport Prime is Foundation Devices' ambitious next-generation device, expanding beyond a pure Bitcoin wallet into a broader personal-security tool. Alongside air-gapped Bitcoin custody, it aims to handle two-factor authentication, passkeys, and encrypted file storage — a 'security device' rather than just a signer. It keeps the air-gapped, camera-and-microSD approach and open-source ethos of the Passport line, but with a larger scope.
For Bitcoin, it works like its sibling: transactions are signed offline and passed via QR or microSD so your keys never touch an internet-connected machine, backed by a secure element and open-source firmware. The added features are the pitch — if you'd otherwise carry a separate hardware security key and want encrypted storage, consolidating them into one well-designed device is appealing.
The honest caveat is maturity. The Prime is newer and far less battle-tested than established, narrowly-scoped signers, and broadening a device's responsibilities inherently widens its attack surface — the opposite of the 'do one thing well' philosophy behind Bitcoin-only wallets. At launch it has also been offered on a pre-order/from-price basis. If your priority is proven, minimal Bitcoin custody, the Passport Core or a Coldcard is the more conservative choice. The Prime makes sense for early adopters who specifically want a combined device and are comfortable on the newer end of the curve.

Foundation Passport Prime: Frequently asked questions
How is the Prime different from the Passport Core?
The Core is a focused Bitcoin-only signer. The Prime broadens scope to include 2FA, passkeys, and encrypted storage on a more powerful platform.
Is broadening the device's scope a security concern?
It can be. More features mean more code and a wider attack surface, which runs against the 'do one thing well' logic of minimal Bitcoin-only wallets.
Is it as battle-tested as older wallets?
No. It's newer and less proven than established signers. Conservative users who only need Bitcoin custody may prefer a Passport Core or Coldcard.
Is it available now?
It has been offered on a pre-order / from-price basis around launch; check current availability before ordering.
