Ledger Nano X

Overview

The Ledger Nano X is Ledger's mobile-friendly flagship of the Nano line, built around the same certified secure element as its cheaper siblings but adding Bluetooth and a rechargeable battery. That combination lets you manage a Bitcoin and multi-coin portfolio from your phone through the Ledger Live app without a cable, which is genuinely convenient for people who send on the go.

Under the hood it works like any hardware wallet: private keys are held inside the secure element, and every transaction is signed on-device and confirmed on its screen. The Bluetooth link only carries already-signed data and public information — your keys never travel over it — but Bluetooth does widen the attack surface compared to a wired-only device. You can disable Bluetooth and use USB-C if you prefer.

The Nano X supports thousands of coins and has large app storage. The honest downsides are the familiar Ledger ones: closed-source firmware, the controversy around the opt-in Ledger Recover service, and a battery that degrades over years (your keys are safe regardless, since the seed is what matters). If you want open-source firmware, consider a Trezor Safe 5 or BitBox02; if you want full air-gap, look at a Coldcard or Keystone.
