Overview

The Foundation Passport (Core) is a Bitcoin-only, air-gapped hardware wallet that stands out for combining serious security with a genuinely beautiful, phone-inspired design. Made by Foundation Devices, it uses a camera and microSD for fully air-gapped operation — it never needs to connect to a computer — and pairs with its own clean Envoy mobile app as well as third-party wallets like Sparrow.

Security-wise it ticks the important boxes: open-source firmware, a secure element, Bitcoin-only scope for a reduced attack surface, and a numeric keypad plus camera for air-gapped QR signing. Transactions are created in your software wallet, passed to the Passport as a QR code or via microSD, signed offline, and returned the same way, so your keys stay isolated. The Envoy app is notably polished and beginner-friendly for an air-gapped device.

Honest trade-offs: being Bitcoin-only means no altcoins, and air-gapped QR/SD workflows are inherently a little slower than just plugging in a USB wallet. It's also pricier than budget air-gap options like the Blockstream Jade. But if you want a device that's simultaneously security-focused, open-source, and a pleasure to use and look at, the Passport Core is a standout Bitcoin-only air-gapped signer.
